Rohit Mahadevu

Head of Digital Systems

Mahadevu Rohit works in digital systems, AI governance, and organisational transformation across higher education and the voluntary sector in the United Kingdom. His work focuses on helping organisations adopt digital tools and artificial intelligence in a practical, ethical, and sustainable way, particularly in environments involving students, volunteers, and public-facing services.

Rohit previously served as President of Hertfordshire Students’ Union, representing a large and diverse student community. In this role, he worked closely with senior university leadership and trustees, contributed to institutional policy discussions, and supported improvements in digital processes and student-facing systems. He was involved in shaping clearer guidance around the responsible use of AI and digital tools within the student and academic environment.

Alongside this, Rohit is a National Executive Member and Head of Digital Systems at INSA UK, where he is responsible for national-level digital platforms and coordination. His work has focused on moving the organisation away from informal, chapter-led practices towards shared digital systems that support consistent communication, onboarding, reporting, and service access across the UK. These systems are designed to be repeatable and sustainable, rather than dependent on individual volunteers.

A key part of Rohit’s work is the practical and responsible use of AI. He led the development of an AI-based Student Support Assistant that helps users find relevant information and services through structured signposting. The system operates within clear limits, does not provide legal or wellbeing advice, and directs users to appropriate official or professional services where needed.

Rohit also works with charities and mission-driven organisations on digital transformation projects, supporting the introduction of digital platforms, automation, and reporting systems, with a strong focus on governance, data boundaries, and accountability.

He is the author of Check-In to Change, a reflective book based on the international student journey. Through his work, Rohit aims to support more responsible, inclusive, and well-governed use of digital systems and AI in organisations that serve the public.
